Insecure Electronic Voting

Ed Felton presents a great explanation of one of the key problems with Diebold’s electronic voting machines. More importantly, he explains the issue in very simple, straight-forward terms. This is an easy article for anyone to read, and everyone should as it may well have a major impact on this year’s elections.

  1. Even though i am a full fledged web guy. i think all online voting is insecure. standard paper ballets cast and counted in public is and has been the only way to go. the only other problem then would be to get rid of this bogus two party system right?

  2. Well said man! I think electronic voting has the ability to make it easier for the voters to understand who they’re voting for when properly designed. Wouldn’t it be great if a voter could tap the nominee’s name or photo and see a breakdown of their position? I think so. The problem comes in when there isn’t a tangible record. I don’t think non-techies realize how easy it is to tamper with any device, much less some models of voting machines. I truly hope they get this ironed out prior to November ‘08.
