Games such as Hearts or Spades have what are called trumps which are special cards or certain suits that are considered to have a higher rank than others. Most variants of poker that I know of do not place any rank on suits. One note, a straight (five cards in order (8, 9, 10, Jack Queen for example) made up of the exact same suit is considered to be higher than the same straight made up of a mixture of different suits. So, a hand of 8 through Queen consisting of a couple of diamonds, a couple of spades and a heart would lose to a straight hand of 8 through Queen made up purely of clubs. The only game I am aware where it is somewhat relevant is "Sheepshead", a game like Euchre, where the Queens and Jacks are the highest trump, and they go in order of Clubs, Spades, Hearts, Diamonds (so, Queen of Clubs is the best Trump card).
